Why We Perform It
A vocal cord swelling can cause persistent hoarseness, voice fatigue, or voice instability. When the lesion does not improve with voice rest or speech therapy, microsurgical removal allows the vocal cords to vibrate normally again and restores voice quality. More often in smokers and professional voice users (Teachers , Singers etc)

- Persistent hoarseness caused by a vocal cord polyp
- Voice fatigue or reduced vocal range
- Failure of conservative treatment such as voice therapy
The Technique – Direct Laryngoscopy
Under general anesthesia, a laryngoscope is gently positioned through the mouth to visualize the vocal cords using a microscope. Delicate micro-instruments are used to precisely remove the polyp/ mass while preserving the surrounding vocal fold tissue. The goal is to restore smooth vibration of the vocal cord and maintain normal voice function. No external neck incision/ no scar.

After the Procedure
Most patients return home the same day. A 5 day complete voice rest is recommended to allow the vocal cords to heal. Mild throat discomfort may occur for a few days. Voice quality gradually improves as swelling subsides and normal vocal fold vibration returns. Voice therapy may be recommended after surgery to optimize long-term vocal performance.
Risks / Complications
Early (within 2 weeks)
Temporary hoarseness or throat discomfort may occur as the vocal cords heal.
Bleeding or infection is uncommon. Never happened in over 200 cases
Delayed (after 3-6 month)
Scar formation or recurrence of the lesion may occur in rare cases.
Revision surgery may be required in case of recurrence ( 3 % in non smokers)
