Why We Perform It
Nasal polyps are benign inflammatory growths that arise from the lining of the nasal passages and paranasal sinuses. They can cause nasal obstruction, loss of smell, sinus infections, and reduced quality of life. When medical treatment is insufficient, endoscopic removal of polyps restores airflow and improves sinus drainage.

Indications
- Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps not responding to medical therapy
- Severe nasal obstruction due to polyps
- Loss of smell associated with sinonasal polyposis
The Technique – Endoscopic Polyp Removal with Microdebrider
Using high‑definition nasal endoscopes, the nasal passages and sinuses are carefully visualized. A powered microdebrider (shaver) is used to precisely remove polyp tissue while preserving healthy sinus mucosa. This technique allows controlled removal of inflammatory tissue and restoration of normal sinus ventilation without external incisions.
After the Procedure
Temporary nasal congestion, mild bleeding, and crusting are common during the first week after surgery. Regular saline irrigation is recommended to promote healing and keep the nasal passages clear. Most patients experience gradual improvement in breathing and smell as the sinuses recover.
Risks / Complications
Early (within 2 weeks)
Mild bleeding, nasal discomfort, or temporary congestion may occur during early healing. Infection or significant bleeding is uncommon.
Delayed (after 2 weeks)
Nasal polyps may recur over time due to the underlying inflammatory condition. Ongoing medical treatment is often recommended to maintain long‑term control

Note on Biologic Therapies
In selected patients, particularly those with recurrent nasal polyps after previous surgery, biologic medications targeting specific inflammatory pathways may be considered as an alternative or adjunct to surgical treatment. These therapies are typically reserved for difficult or revision cases and are discussed individually with each patient.
